Services Offered
MSC provides a full range of ECM- and Heavy Vehicle EDR-related services by way of ECM Data Imaging. Some examples of our services are:
ECM Data Extraction: We can respond to and assist with the recovery of ECM and HVEDR data in situ (i.e., directly from the accident-involved vehicle) for cases in North America in about 24 hours. (In most cases, recovery of electronic data in situ is the preferred method of extraction and imaging.)
Bench Data Extraction / Bench Download: In some cases, collision damage may prevent downloading an ECM on the original tractor. Sometimes it is cost-effective to simply mail us the ECM and let us perform the data extraction or imaging in our office. We are able to perform these bench-top downloads safely and effectively by simulating truck sensors' input and preventing new faults from being written. Read our white paper to learn more about the methods we use to preserve valuable forensic data when downloading ECMs.
Surrogate Vehicle Download: Sometimes preserving evidence requires that the ECM from the collision-involved vehicle be downloaded through a surrogate vehicle. We can locate an acceptable surrogate or assist the onsite investigator with this process to perform the download.
ECM / HVEDR Data Evaluation: ECM and other HVEDR data are not always easy to understand. Many ECMs can record well over 100 pages of data, and numerous scientific papers have been written about how to evaluate the event data.
MSC's staff has authored several of these peer-reviewed scientific papers on HVEDR data, and our continuing commitment to research in this area allows us to help our clients understand and interpret data in complex cases.
MSC has been retained to analyze or review allegations of evidence spoliation, data tampering, and data inaccuracy. We are available for consulting in these types of matters, in addition to the other services we offer.
