ECM Data Imaging: Retrieving Electronic Evidence from Heavy Trucks

ECM Data Imaging services are provided by Messerschmidt Safety Consultants (MSC) to help investigators, law enforcement officers, and other interested parties retrieve electronic evidence from heavy trucks. Download a brochure about this service.

  • Over 60% of heavy trucks in North America contain an Event Data Recorder (EDR).
  • MSC provides ECM Data Imaging services at the most affordable rates in the industry.
  • MSC has the technology and expertise necessary to download ECM data safely.

Read our white paper on proper methods for ECM downloads.

Heavy truck ECMs can contain over 200 pages of data (as opposed to the relatively short data-images in most passenger cars).

The data include many pieces of evidence ranging from information about the event to the specifications of the truck and engine.

Our Capabilities: We can download, extract, or image the ECM data contained in all major North American heavy trucks, except Mack Trucks.

Mack Trucks, Inc. has not released their data collection software to the public. If you need assistance with a Mack engine module, click here.

Why Choose MSC? Our consultants have performed hundreds of ECM data extractions, and we teach the class taught in North America for forensic investigators.

MSC’s consultants have authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers on ECM data interpretation and analysis. MSC has coauthored manuals on electronic evidence preservation, and we developed EDR Analytics, the first-ever software program to analyze data from Heavy Vehicle Event Data Recorders (HVEDRs).

How We Can Help:

It is important to preserve electronic evidence correctly.  We have the experience, training, education, and technology to do that.

Improper data extraction and/or improper handling of the electronic evidence can devalue, destroy, alter, or corrupt the data. MSC handles and preserves electronic evidence properly.
